A final day spared by the weather…

A spectacular show without a hitch

The 2026 Spa Euro Race concluded in the best possible way this Sunday, with a third day marked by stable weather conditions that guaranteed intense racing throughout the programme.

The Lotus and Ginetta cars of the European GT Lite Challenge opened Sunday’s action with a 25-minute sprint dominated by the Exige V6 Cup Rs. As on Saturday, Luxembourg’s Paul Maréchal had the final say, making a significant gain in the championship standings at Spa. He finished ahead of Germany’s Rainer Börgens and Belgium’s Thierry Verhiest. Technical issues hampered the Lotus Evora GT4 of Hungary’s Bence Balogh, another leading contender in the series.

The first highlight of the day, Race 2 of the GB3 Championship, took place on a dry track. Starting from pole position, Nikita Bedrin (VRD Racing) made a perfect start and quickly established a commanding lead before cruising to victory. Behind him, Germany’s Maxim Rehm (Rodin Motorsport) held onto second place throughout the race, while Hungary’s Martin Molnar (Rodin Motorsport) edged out Britain’s Deagen Fairclough (Hitech) for the final podium position. Starting third on the grid, young Briton Abbi Pulling (Rodin Motorsport), winner of Race 1, had to settle for fifth overall, fending off Mexico’s Patricio Gonzalez (VRD Racing) until the finish.

The Caterhams were the dominant feature of this final day of the Spa Euro Race, with no fewer than four 20-minute sprint races on the schedule. In the Seven 270R/Roadsport category, the competition was particularly fierce, with the outcome of Race 2 decided at the chequered flag, following a spectacular crash that sent three Caterhams into the barriers. Fortunately, there were no injuries. Brian Thornton narrowly claimed victory ahead of Paul Ogglesby and Henry Speeks, while Oliver Smith won the Roadsport class.

At 3:20 p.m., the 270R competitors returned to the track on their own for Race 3. Once again, the battle was intense until four competitors, including Paul Ogglesby and Steve Lorriman, collided at Blanchimont. The race was immediately neutralised and did not resume under green-flag conditions, allowing Brian Thornton to secure another victory ahead of Nick Bryant and Aaron Oliver.

Next up were the Caterham Seven 310R/CSCUK competitors, who delivered a contest of equal intensity. The race was decided on the final lap, with Taylor O’Flanagan taking the sprint victory ahead of Charlie Lower and Harry Senior. In the 310R class, Paul Goldstein had the final word, followed by Ryan Wilby and William Harris. The race was red-flagged after contact between two cars at the Bus Stop Chicane.

This lively field had the honour of bringing Sunday’s action to a close with yet another race full of incidents and improbable battles. Taylor O’Flanagan emerged victorious once more, ahead of Nick Highton and Matt Armstrong, while Lyonel Tollemache claimed victory in the 310R class.

Race 2 of the FIA Formula Regional European Championship (FREC) got underway at 2:20 p.m. on a dry track. Following a surprise result in the morning qualifying session, Maksimilian Popov (Trident Motorsport) started from pole position alongside Rashid Al-Dhaheri (R-ace GP). For nearly half an hour, the gaps between the leading drivers remained minimal, with Popov holding onto the lead ahead of Alexander Abkhazava (MP Motorsport) and Al-Dhaheri. Things proved more complicated for Saturday’s winner, Alexandre Munoz (ART Grand Prix), who repeatedly exceeded track limits and received a penalty, while championship leader Sebastien Wheldon (MP Motorsport) was unable to break into the top five.

Just as spectators were anticipating a thrilling sprint to the finish, a double incident brought out the Safety Car. The chequered flag was ultimately waved under neutralised conditions, allowing Popov to secure an unexpected victory ahead of Abkhazava and Al-Dhaheri.

As on the previous day, the Supercar Challenge, Britcar and P9 Challenge competitors contested another 61-minute race in the middle of the afternoon. Following a Safety Car period triggered by the crash of the Grootscholten-Steentjes BMW M4 GT4 Evo at Raidillon, the Koopman Racing BMW M6 GT3s took full advantage of the longer mandatory pit stop imposed on the Scheibner-Alzen BMW M4 GT3 — entered in the P9 Challenge — to move to the front of the field.

This time, Briton Harry Barton edged out Marlon Birdsall, Saturday’s winner, while Dutchman Gilles Van Houtum completed the overall podium. Berry van Elk dominated the Supersport+ category in his BMW M4 GT4 Evo, while Jordy van der Eijk did the same in Supersport with his Cupra TCR. In the Sport division, victory once again went to a Belgian driver, with Chris Voet taking top honours in the Traxx Racing Alpine A110.

In Britcar, Bobby Trundley and Aaron Morgan claimed the GT class victory in their McLaren 570S GT4, while Carl Garnett and Jonathan Moore secured top honours in the Britcar Trophy with their Ginetta G56 GTA.

That’s a wrap for the 2026 Spa Euro Race! The Royal Automobile Club of Spa team will now put the finishing touches to preparations for the Circuit des Ardennes Commemoration, a very different kind of event that will take place on August 8 and 9, starting from Place McAuliffe in Bastogne.
