After the rain comes the good weather

After a rainy start, the third and final day of the Spa Euro Race was marked by a gradual improvement in the weather, with the sun even returning in the middle of the morning. All the ingredients were in place for a show that was as breathtaking as it was intense...

As on the previous day, it was the young guns of the GB3 Championship who contested the first race of the day, their third of the weekend. Following the successes of Alex Ninovic (Rodin) and Kanato Le (Hillspeed) the day before, it was Germany's Hugo Schwarze (VRD) who took to the front on a track that was drying out, with some riders, including Freddie Slater (Hillspeed), taking the gamble of putting on slicks just before take-off. Schwarze quickly rushed into the pitlane to fit his car with dry track tyres, followed by many other competitors. As the laps went by, it became clearer and clearer that the choice of slicks was the best one, as demonstrated by Freddie Slater, who burst into the driver's seat midway through the race, on his way to victory. The Briton was the third different winner of the weekend, while the Hillspeed team scored a remarkable double thanks to Race 2 winner Kanato Le, who got the better of Reza Seewooruthun late on.

After a qualifying session marked by countless time cancellations due to “Track Limits”, Race 2 of the Alpine Elf Cup Series was characterised by two neutralisations following spectacular incidents at the Double Gauche and the Chicane des Combes. Starting from the front row, Léo Jousset (Race Cars Consulting) immediately got the better of American Roee Meyuhas (Forestier Racing by VPS) before holding off Victor Weyrich (Herrero Racing) and Romain Monti (Chazel Technologie Course). The latter made contact with Weyrich at the Bus-Stop Chicane, which allowed the best Junior, Lazare Lartigau (Forestier Racing by VPS), to move up to third overall. This was the fourth win in four races this season for Léo Jousset, who has dominated the Alpine Elf Cup Series.

The second round of the 2025 Belcar Endurance Championship, scheduled for 125 minutes, got underway on a perfectly dry track, with Cédric Wauters on pole position at the wheel of the D'Ieteren Luxury Performance by NGT Porsche 992 GT3 Cup. However, the Belgium Racing team never gave up, and although Dylan Derdaele quickly took over from Wauters at the head of the race, this position was to be strengthened following a sensor problem which forced the D'Ieteren Luxury Performance by NGT Porsche to make three stops instead of two! Despite a thundering second half from Glenn Van Parijs, it was the Derdaele-Lauryssen duo who took the lead in the #99 Belgium Racing Porsche! It was a galloping finish for the Haas RT Audi R8 LMS GT2 of Stienes Longin, who had taken over from Guelinckx father and son, but who took the lead from the MM Racing Porsche 992 GT3 Cup of brothers Mick, Steve and Tom Meurrens on the penultimate lap... not without inheriting a 10-second penalty for “Track Limits” which dropped it back to 4th position! It was the VP-Racing Audi RS 3 LMS of Olivier Bertels and Nick Van Pelt that came out on top in the touring car category.

A double incident at Pif-Paf and Blanchimont split Race 2 of the Clio Cup Series into two segments, but that wasn't enough to prevent Gabriele Torelli (Rangoni Corse) from holding on to the lead, before suffering a full-on assault from David Pouget (GPA Racing) on the climb up to Kemmel... and recovering his advantage two loops later! The spectacular race was once again decided in a sprint, with Torelli getting the better of GPA Racing team-mates David Pouget and Alex Finkelstein for the second time in two days. Anthony Jurado (Rangoni Corse), who had been involved in contact the day before, climbed back up to 4th place, flanked by his team-mate Damiano Puccetti.

The Supercar Challenge had the honour of bringing the Spa Euro Race 2025 sporting debates to a close, with the fastest cars from the P9 Challenge, the German competition which had invited itself to the party. Coach McKansy led the way with his spectacular Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo. The Italian car, also driven by Gerhard Tweraser, never relinquished this position, winning by a wide margin from the BMW M6 GT3 of Cees Wijsman, winner of the GT class in the Supercar Challenge. Germany's Hermann Speck (Porsche 991 GT3 R) completed the overall podium, while Belgium's Gilles Renmans (Porsche 992 GT3 Cup) and John De Wilde (ditto) completed the Supercar Challenge podium. Another victory in black-yellow-red in the Sport class, with the Alpine A110 Cup of Chris Voet and Bart Van den Broeck doubling the lead.

The curtain came down on an excellent Spa Euro Race 2025. The Spa-Francorchamps circuit was packed to the rafters with spectators, who enjoyed the intensity of the races, the variety of grids and the fast pace of the action. The Royal Automobile Club de Spa will now be concentrating on the Commemoration of the Circuit des Ardennes, starting in Bastogne, scheduled for Friday July 11, Saturday July 12 and Sunday July 13. The date is set...
