BTCC Champion makes Sportscar Debut Reigning British Touring Car champion Jason Plato will make his International sportscar debut at Spa Francorchamps next weekend.The 34 year old who currently competes in the new ASCAR series will partner Bob Berridge in the Lola B98/10 Judd that finished 3rd at Barcelona earlier in the year. Plato has driven just about everything in his distinguished career including Formula Renault, Renault Spiders,Super Touring and now ASCAR.The Lola B98/10 will be by far the most powerful car that the Oxford born driver has competed in but after beating team mate Yvan Muller to last years BTCC crown the often fiery driver should be just as exciting in the SR1 racer. Jason kicked of his season in fine style by winning the season opener at Brands Hatch, and claimed a new lap record. He had another win at Snetterton and finished 5th in the Championship. 1999 - Third season in the BTCC with Nescafe Blend 37 Williams Renault, being promoted to Number 1 Driver. A promising year that saw Jasons title challenge disappear mid season with 3 untimely engine failures. Finishing 5th Overall with 1 win. Renault pulls out of the BTCC and Williams Touring Car Engineering closes it doors. A rather sad end at Silverstone. 1998 - Second season in the BTCC with Nescafe Blend 37 Williams Renault. Finished 5th overall with one victory out of a total of seven podium finishes, 1 pole position. Lap record holder at Silverstone and still at Bathurst. 1997 - Debut season in the BTCC with Williams Renault Dealer Racing. Finished third overall, missing out on second by a single point, with two victories out of a total of nine podium finishes, 4 Pole positions and 2 Fastest laps. Lap record holder at Silverstone and Bathurst. 1996 - Winner of the Elf Renault Sport Spider UK Cup with 10 victories in the 14 rounds of the series including the European Championship race at the British Grand Prix. 1995 - Competed in Formula Renault Sport, taking in the last round of the British and last two rounds of the European Championships. 1994 - Test driver for the Janspeed Nissan team in the Auto Trader RAC Touring Car Championship. 1993 - Competed in the British Formula Vauxhall Lotus Championship driving for Martin Donnelly Racing. Finished fifth overall. 1992 - Competed in the British Formula Three Championship for Lotus Junior team with the new works Van Diemen chassis, regular top 6 finisher. 1991 - Chosen for the works Van Diemen seat in Formula Renault and won eight out of 12 rounds before going on to win the European Championship. 1990 - First season in single-seaters with Cuda Motorsport in the British Formula Renault Championship. Changed teams midway through the year to Manor Motorsport driving a Van Diemen chassis. Secured fastest lap and a newlap record in his first race. HAd his first race win in the final round. Finished fifth overall with three lap records and four fastest laps and one win. 1989 - Attended Elf Renault Winfield School in August 1989, Magny Cours. Finished second overall and narrow missed out on a fully paid season in French Formula Renault Championship. 1988 - Spent this year concentrating on securing sponsorship for his single-seater career. 1987 - Competed in the Formula K 135cc European Championship. 1986 - Continued in the the British Kart team, Jason completed a year's work experience with the TWR Jaguar Group C World Sportscar and European Touring Car Teams. 1985 - Again competed in the Senior National UK Commercial Series and again finished fifth. Also finished fifth overall in the Senior World Grand Prix Championships. 1984 - Competed in the Senior National UK Commercial series and finished third overall. 1983 - Member British Kart Team.Became Junior World Grand Prix Champion. 1982 - Winner of the 1982 British Karting Championships (Junior Britain Class). 1981 - Started karting age 12.
